A well-earned reward for the former champion.

While Saturday night’s UFC 275 main event may not have gone the way Glover Teixeira intended, the week wasn’t a total loss for the Brazilian light heavyweight, as the Professional Hockey Writers Association unanimously awarded him the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, awarded to the athlete who displayed a high level of skill while maintaining commendable sportsmanship and gentlemanly behavior. Although Teixeira’s nomination, which occurred when the UFC accidentally received paperwork intended for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, was acknowledged to be a mistake, the writers responsible for voting in the poll felt there was no way to honestly deny his claim to the title.

The award marks the third time a UFC fighter has captured NHL hardware, with Anderson Silva winning the Frank J. Selke Trophy for the attacker with the best defensive abilities and Colby Covington’s President’s Trophy-winning campaign for the best performance in a non-championship setting when he defeated Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225.
