Not everyone has the time to be a hardcore fan, watching all the smaller promotions of the world. That’s why Mixed Martial Artish’s Prospect Watch is here to help you learn about future stars before they can make their mark on the UFC stage.
ONE Championship held its first streaming fights on Amazon Prime, and with the promotion wisely choosing to do so on a weekend with no UFC action, many fight fans were likely scanning the bouts for the next big thing and one name jumped out as someone the UFC would be stupid not to try to sign — new ONE Championship Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson. Taking on the defending champion Adriano Moraes in the night’s main event, Johnson put on a show, first engaging in a competitive bout through three rounds before coming out and finishing the title-holder in the fourth round by first cracking Moraes with a right then following his dazed opponent to the cage to land a knockout jumping knee. Between his exciting fighting style, finishing instinct and a dynamic personality outside the cage, don’t be surprised if the UFC comes knocking to pluck him up to the big show. After all, any promoter worth a damn could see Johnson’s star potential, and you’d have to think Dana White was pretty ignorant if you think he wouldn’t want a piece of that action.
