As certified old-heads, we here at Mixed Martial Artish sometimes like to look back on fighters from yester-year who have since left the public conscience. Today, a former two-division UFC Champion!
While the name Conor McGregor may not mean much in the world of Mixed Martial Arts today, there was once a time when he was the hottest property around. McGregor talked the talk but soon showed he could walk the walk, dusting Featherweight champion Jose Aldo in seconds before moving up to claim the Lightweight crown as well. Unfortunately for McGregor, he would win just one more match in five tries across two sports before drifting quietly into anonymity, and few if any new fans today even know his name.
It’s not all bad news, however, McGregor fans! Not only have rumors emerged of a potential The Ultimate Fighter coaching gig against Tony Fergusson, a fighter coming off a UFC main event bout, but recent news of an alleged assault by McGregor against a woman on his yacht also means he is just the kind of personality the UFC is eager to make the face of its organization in 2023! Finally the champ-champ may be getting a push in this sport.
