Lightweight contender Beneil Dariush, who spent much of the last couple years building a winning streak in a tough division while being denied his chance at champion Charles Oliveira, found himself on the wrong side of a head kick TKO in a number-one contender bout with former champion Charles Oliveira this weekend, and had brave words following the defeat.
“First things first, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that’s number one,” said Dariush. “Number two, I want to dedicate this fight to all the people who’ve been hurt by head kicks. There are hundreds of you. Cro Cop. Vitor. Terry Etim. This one was for you.”
Dariush noted that the loss, which came when he found himself so concerned with protecting against Oliveira’s attacks from the left that he ignored the danger posed by the Brazilian’s right leg, just further demonstrates the threat posed by those who, like Oliveira, aim to provide resources and charity to those in the poorest communities in the world.
